The crystal of each high-purity germanium detector uses a coaxial geometry, with two sides of the germanium crystal90degree angle, and the remaining longitudinal surfaces are connected to both sides by arcs. The four detectors are tightly packed together to form a "four-leaf clover shape" and installed in an end cap. cold finger passed5LIt is refrigerated with liquid nitrogen in a Dewar tank, and the refrigeration maintenance time is about12hours.
ORTEC TETRAD used by detectorsNType high purity germanium crystal mainly provides2an advantage. First,NType materials reduce the damage to detectors caused by neutrons and protons that are common in nuclear physics experiments; secondly, photons may be scattered multiple times before exhausting their energy within the crystal. Depending on the energy, a photon's energy may be deposited in one detector and then scattered to other detectors, depositing the remaining energy. In order to measure this part of energy and ensure peak energy collection,ORTECofNThe outer surface of the detector uses a very thin contact electrode to maximize the passing efficiency of incident or scattered photons, especially low-energy photons.
The four detectors can independently collect energy information, and the problem of scattered photons is handled through a "add-back" algorithm. The "add back" algorithm can makeTETRAD The total system efficiency of the detector is much greater than the sum of the four individual crystals.
Additionally, four smaller crystals and separate preamplifiers allow the system to achieve higher count rates and better resolution than larger detectors.
Typical applications
Scientific research institutions/universities
ORTEC TETRAD Detectors are widely used in nuclear physics research, especially in applications where energy resolution and relative efficiency are required in confined spaces.ORTEC TETRADTwo typical applications of detectors:
- Beam experiments related to nuclear reaction cross-section measurement and nuclear structure analysis
- Fission product analysis of irradiated materials (branch ratio)
Performance
See the product data sheet for specific parameters. Guaranteed values are measured by ORTEC analog or digital electronics.
ORTEC TETRAD The detector is rugged and has a long service life. Currently TETRAD The design further improves the convenience of after-sales maintenance, allowing some simple technical problems to be solved on site, eliminating the complex steps of returning to the factory for repairs. In addition,TETRAD The high-purity germanium crystal in the detector can be disassembled and maintained independently without the need to disassemble the entire assembly.
