A scintillation detector produces light when it absorbs energy, and the scintillation of this light causes a corresponding number of photoelectrons to be released at the cathode of a photomultiplier tube (PMT). Each ORTEC photomultiplier tube base is designed to house a specific type of PMT to distribute operating voltage to, and derive signals from, all of its components. An external power supply is generally used to provide high voltage to the PMT base. Recently power supplies have been integrated into the base, and now even multi-channel analyzers are integrated into the PMT base. All these types of models are available from ORTEC.
