Online radiation alarm is the key equipment for modern radiation protection

Online radiation alarmAs a key piece of modern radiation protection equipment, its working principle and functional advantages are of great value in the fields of nuclear safety, medical care and industry. Capture radiation particles such as α, β, γ and X-rays in the environment in real time through high-precision detectors. When radiation particles interact with the detector material, electrical or optical signals are generated. The instrument converts these signals into radiation dose rates (such as μSv/h) or cumulative doses (such as mSv), and updates the data in real time on the display. If the radiation intensity exceeds the preset threshold, the instrument will sound an alarm through sound, light signal or vibration to remind personnel to take protective measures.

  1. Measurement steps

  1. Inspection before starting up: Check whether the appearance of the device is intact, and confirm that the detector window is clean (no dust or fingerprints blocking it) to avoid low readings due to obstruction; also check the battery power to prevent measurement interruption or data distortion due to insufficient power.

  2. Turn on and self-test: Turn on the power switch of the instrument, and the instrument will automatically perform self-test, including battery power and functional status detection. After the self-test is completed, it enters standby mode. Some models need to be preheated and stabilized to ensure measurement accuracy.

  3. Mode selection and threshold setting: Select the corresponding radiation type (such as γ rays, X-rays, etc.) according to monitoring needs; and set a reasonable alarm threshold according to the scene. If the threshold is too low, it may cause false alarms, and if it is too high, the alarm may be delayed.

  4. Installation and positioning: When fixing the probe, it should be installed on a 1.8-meter-high wall in an area with frequent human activities to ensure that the detector is firm; the alarm light needs to be about 50 cm away from the probe, and the sound alarm can be controlled by a switch (such as a quiet environment in a hospital).

  5. Real-time monitoring and recording: The instrument continuously monitors the radiation dose rate, triggers an audible and visual alarm when it exceeds the threshold, and automatically records the data. The measurement time can be selected in fast gear (1 second) or slow gear (3-60 seconds) according to the dose rate.

  2. Precautions for use

  1. Avoid interference and wear it correctly: Stay away from interference sources such as strong magnetic fields and electromagnetic waves to prevent them from affecting measurement accuracy. When using the instrument for personal use, wear it at chest or waist height to ensure it is facing the radiation source and is not easily blocked.

  2. Regular calibration and maintenance: Calibrate regularly according to standard requirements and be operated by professionals to ensure data reliability; clean surface dirt after daily use, remove the battery when not in use for a long time to prevent leakage, and store it in a dry environment.

  3. Alarm response and emergency treatment: When an alarm occurs, immediately evacuate to a safe area upwind, record the alarm time, location and radiation level, and contact professionals for handling; reset the instrument afterwards and check the functional status.
