System design and operation
The system consists of three main components: counters (shields and detectors), application software and signal processing hardware. The hexagonal shape of the StandFAST II counter is a configuration predicted with the Monte Carlo code MCNP. Two 4" x 4" x 16" NaI detectors in the shielded column in front of the counter provide a solution for typical fission and activation product counting. Two large NaI detectors are combined with a PMT preamplifier base with integrated high-voltage power supply, eliminating long high-voltage cables. The analog signal is processed so that individual spectra can be stored and features digital spectrum stabilization.
StandFAST II is capable of processing objects under test at high rates while still meeting ANSI N13.30 requirements. In a standard analysis, the spectra from both detectors are analyzed. In this manner, data for a second test object can be analyzed while a second test object is being counted and while a third test object is being processed into the system for counting.
Password-protected administrator and operator modes ensure data security. The "Easy Calibration" procedure makes StandFAST II easy to set up, while built-in quality assurance utilities ensure the validity of your results.
Subject results are automatically stored in an industry-standard subject database so recounts can be easily accomplished with minimal data entry. Results can be easily transferred to other remote systems (usually via Ethernet) and custom reports can be generated directly from the database using products such as Microsoft Access.
