The detector is mounted in the center of the chamber lid and the sample is mounted on one of three support rods at a preselected distance from the detector. The design allows the detector-to-sample distance to be established and measured before the assembly is placed in the chamber. Due to easy access, the detector can be replaced without touching it. Another convenience is that the support rods on the sample holder can be used as legs to support the lid as it exits the chamber.
Openings in the wooden base allow efficient geometry of the gamma detector to be placed against the bottom of the thin stainless steel chamber,
to perform β-γ coincidence measurements. This application uses an extension cable to mount the semiconductor detector near the base of the chamber.
Since the vacuum pump and exhaust functions are combined on one valve, it is not necessary to switch off the vacuum pump when changing samples. Turning the valve a quarter turn opens the chamber to vacuum while sealing the exhaust passage.
The Model 807 is as functional as it is beautiful, with its main housing made of stainless steel and mounted on a painted wooden base. The stainless steel valve is equipped with a Swagelok tube fitting that accepts 1/4-inch OD tubing from the vacuum line. (Note: ORTEC portable pump, ALPHA-PPS-115/230 or ALPHA-MINI-PPS models can be used with this chamber.)
