The Model 570 uses an automatically gated baseline restorer, and its system resolution is virtually independent of the input count rate.

The gated baseline restorer (BLR) includes a discriminator that operates the sensing circuitry that typically establishes a baseline reference for the MCA. Spectrometer performance often depends on the accuracy of the BLR threshold setting. The Model 570 features convenient automatic threshold controls that often give results that are as good or better than manual operation by an experienced operator.

The Type 570 active filter produces a very symmetrical unipolar output over a wide range of time constants with excellent signal-to-noise ratio.

The Model 570 output has excellent DC stability, which eliminates spectral broadening problems caused by DC drift and ensures the high-resolution capabilities of the germanium detector.

    BLR

3The bit lock toggle switch selects the control source for the gated baseline restorer discriminator threshold from the following three positions:

    • automatic BLRThe threshold is automatically set by internal circuitry to a level that is a function of signal noise.
    • PZ Adj BLRThe threshold is determined by the threshold potentiometer.BLRThe time constant is also greatly increased to facilitate adjustmentPZ;for less than5000count/second count rate and/or longer forming time, this location can give noise.
    • threshold BLRThe threshold is set manually using the threshold potentiometer.
