The gated baseline restorer (BLR) includes a discriminator that operates the sensing circuitry that typically establishes a baseline reference for the MCA. The performance of the spectrometer depends on the accuracy of the BLR threshold setting. The Model 572A features a convenient automatic threshold control that often gives results that are as good or better than manual operation by an experienced operator. The gate logic generates a busy signal that can be used for dead time correction.
Active filter circuitry enables the Type 572A to produce a very symmetrical unipolar output over a wide range of time constants with excellent signal-to-noise ratio. The instrument also provides bipolar outputs for timing and gating applications.
Any DC drift in the amplifier output will cause spectral broadening. Model 572A has excellent DC stability, which eliminates the problem of spectrum broadening caused by DC drift and ensures the high resolution capability of the germanium detector.
stack discarder
The stacking discard circuitry integrated into the Type 572A generates a check cycle immediately after each signal for a duration equal to the busy output. If a second event occurs within this check interval, the inhibit signal Inh output is generated to shut down the MCA, thereby discarding the distorted amplifier output.
