The ORTEC FoodGuard-2 Workstation is a ready-to-use, fully functional system for complex analysis of food, water and other agricultural samples that may contain any form of gamma-ray emitting radioactive material following an accident or incident. By using a high-resolution high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector, each gamma-emitting radionuclide in a sample can be quantified as a specific activity in Bq/Kg or Bq/L.
FoodGuard-2 Workstation software includes example limit tables from international regulatory organizations such as the USFDA and the World Health Organization for reference on acceptable activities of radionuclides (137Cs, 134Cs and 131I). These tables can also be customized with other nuclides and different limits to meet your specific needs.
Once the system arrives, administrators can set up sample types, alarm limits and report output in just a few simple steps. The operator then uses the interactive user interface to enter a few key sample information, places the sample into one of the included Marinelli cups, and begins counting. During counting, the software provides feedback such as spectra and alarm notifications before displaying a professionally formatted report for sharing or archiving. The operation is optimized for high efficiency and clear results.
Detected concentration
The MDC is suitable for 20% detectors and 2-liter Marinelli cups, which come standard with the system. The MDC will be lower for larger detectors and longer counting times. Calibrations for additional sample densities and geometries can be created using the add-on software GammaVision. Once created, operators can easily load different calibrations for different samples.
FoodGuard-2 system configuration
Systems ordered from ORTEC are complete systems that are pre-calibrated and configured. When ordering, you can choose from a range of detector efficiencies (20% to 60%) and cooling options.
