Phantom is made of plastic material and is designed to simulate the gamma ray scattering properties of human tissue. Source locations are used to represent the location of certain body organs.
The rectangular design provides an economical and adequate representation of the human torso. The design is used to simulate the attenuation of gamma rays from internal sources and the scattering or attenuation of gamma rays from external sources.
The Phantom is constructed from detachable and interlocking parts for easy movement and positioning, and can be conveniently split into two halves. The "neck" piece designed specifically for the thyroid calibration source is also removable and interlockable for reproducible positioning. The "legs" are independent of each other, allowing the phantom to be placed in the StandFAST II.
The calibration source chamber is designed to accommodate many source manufacturers' standard 1-liter WBC calibration standards. Calibration sources can be inserted or removed without moving the phantom. Insert the lung source from the top by removing the plug. Insert the gastrointestinal source by removing the anterior part of the lower part.
The overall dimensions of the phantom comply with Internal Radiation Dose (MIRD) Committee guidelines. (See MIRD Brochure No. 5, Supplement 3).
