Detailed introduction

ORTEC 480 Pulser
  • Analog radiation detector output signal
  • Can be calibrated to directly read equivalent energy deposition in semiconductor radiation detectors
  • When the rise time is <10ns and the decay time constant is 200 or 400μs, there is an exponential pulse shape,
  • Line Frequency Pulse Repetition Frequency
  • Positive or negative polarity
  • Direct 0 to 10V output
  • Attenuated output with 1000:1 attenuation range

The ORTEC Model 480 Pulse Generator simulates the output signal of a solid-state or scintillation radiation detector and provides a means of checking electronic instruments in a pulse processing system. It has 1% overall accuracy, good stability as a function of temperature and time, and features front-panel controls that calibrate the instrument for direct reading of the equivalent energy deposited in the radiation detector.

The Model 480 has a stable internal reference voltage that is effectively independent of any modular power supply or AC line voltage changes. Attenuation Output Four toggle switches in a pi attenuator arrangement provide 1000:1 attenuation. The direct output precedes the attenuator switch, providing a stable means of oscilloscope triggering. The instrument has a charge terminator and a 100 Ω voltage terminator. A charge terminator is used to convert voltage pulses into charge pulses for subsequent amplification by a charge-sensitive preamplifier. Use voltage terminators to input voltage pulses directly into other instruments such as amplifiers, discriminators, and ADCs. There is a bracket on the rear panel for storing the charge terminator when not in use.

The Model 480 pulse generator is designed to meet DOE/ER-0457T interchangeability standards. The ORTEC NIM chassis and power supplies provide all necessary power via rear module connectors. All signal levels and impedances are compatible with all other ORTEC NIM standard modules.
