ORTEC is a supplier of solid-state, high-resolution, semiconductor radiation detectors. These radiation detectors are widely used in research, commerce, environmental protection, health and wellness physics, and homeland security to detect gamma rays, X-rays, and charged particles.

As an industry, ORTEC is the company that developed high-purity germanium (HPGe) crystal manufacturing in the early 1970s. Since then, the company has continued to play a role in HPGe detector technology by developing an N-type HPGe detector and a commercial electric-cooled HPGe detector. Recently, ORTEC released the Profile S&C series of wide-energy HPGe detectors and ICS™ advanced integrated cryogenic cooling system.

ORTEC also offers several other HPGe models for radiation detection. Customers can choose from a variety of room temperature charged particle silicon detectors for alpha spectrum measurement and research applications; or scintillation detectors for a variety of room temperature radiation detection applications.
