ICS is available in two versions to support a variety of radiation detector models.
ICS and ICS-EThe ultra-high vacuum cryostat used in this model has excellent integrity, reliability and operating performance. This feature allows for immediate recovery after a power outage, eliminating the need to rewarm the detector if rewarming occurs.
ICS-P4 (PopTop® model)Uses a traditional cryostat that is compatible with the ORTEC PopTop radiation detector housing for use with new radiation detectors or field upgrades.
All ICS versions consist of a highly reliable, maintenance-free, mechanically cooled cryostat, delivering unparalleled performance for HPGe radiation detectors. ICS uses Sunpower's industry-proven Stirling refrigerator, which is more efficient and reliable than pulse tube designs. Increased efficiency means improved cooling performance while generating less heat and lowering power consumption. The mean time to operation (MTTF) of ICS exceeds 200,000 hours, and its operational reliability is superior to other similar products.
All ICS models feature AVC™ (Active Vibration Cancellation) technology, designed to eliminate vibration and noise levels. This gives it comparable resolution performance to LN2 cooling systems in all operating directions, meeting the high resolution and versatility requirements of most HPGe applications.
Typical applications
- Commercial, government and environmental laboratories - ICS is a good choice due to its excellent resolution performance and low noise. Regular refilling of LN2 is not required, thus saving costs, increasing detector availability and minimizing work hazards.
- Nuclear power and industrial plants - ICS offers great advantages in environments where power failures occur frequently. Ultra-high vacuum cryostats increase detector availability by eliminating the need for reheating and reducing equipment downtime. There is no need for regular maintenance and filling of LN2, and workers spend less time in "strong" radiation areas. The compact size of the ICS allows it to be easily installed into new or existing counting installations.
- Research and Education - Similar to laboratory applications, ICS is also suitable for research and education due to its excellent resolution performance and low noise. No LN2 is required, reducing the cost of ownership of ICS.
- Waste Management and Field Remediation - Ultra-high vacuum cryostat versions of ICS provide maximum "uptime". The PopTop cryostat version allows for field upgrade/replacement of existing detector cooling.
- Health Physics - Whether as an upgrade system or as a new HPGe system, the low heat, low noise and high-resolution performance of ICS give HPGe systems unique advantages in the health physics field.
- Homeland Safety and Security - ICS is the solution for these applications due to its combined features: ultra-high vacuum cryostat that eliminates the need to recycle the detector when no regeneration occurs, and the PopTop cryostat that enables field replacement and upgrades, low power operation, and use of a universal power supply.
