Abdominal imaging can be used to diagnose disease and monitor treatment. Type 057A is representative of the small adult abdomen and can be imaged under CT, MR and ultrasound. This feature makes Phantom a useful tool for applications such as image fusion research; imaging protocol development; scanning technology training; and system testing, validation, and demonstration.
The CIRS057A abdominal phantom uses simplified anthropomorphic geometry to simulate the abdomen from approximately the thoracic spine (T9/T10) to the lumbar spine (L2/L3). These materials provide contrast between structures under CT, MR and ultrasound. The solid polymer background gel will not leak during puncture.
Internal structures include the liver, portal vein, two partial kidneys, partial lungs, abdominal aorta, vena cava, simulated spine and six ribs. There were six lesions in the liver and one lesion each in the kidneys. These structures surround the muscle layer and outer fat layer, and plastic end caps make the phantom durable enough for extended scans.
The phantom includes a foam-lined hard carrying case, and to accommodate the image fusion technology, CIRS can offer value-added options and services such as phantom-specific CMMs, reference CT or MRI data sets, accessories for customer-specific registration equipment, and the inclusion of special point markers.

Note: Some persistent traces may occur if gel and air bubbles become entrapped in the gel during biopsy, so it is recommended to use a tall gauge needle that has been moistened and degassed prior to insertion to extend the life of the phantom.
