Detective X algorithm
ExceptIn addition to the inherent selectivity of the HPGe detector type, the ultimate performance of Detective X in terms of identification fidelity also depends on the software algorithm. ORTEC licensed the original Lawrence Livermore RadScout algorithm in 2003 and made numerous improvements to it over the years. For example, as part of the DHS/DNDO HPRDS program, ORTEC developed the Advanced HPRDS RIID (Micro-HPRDS) from 2008 to 2010. Advances in this algorithm greatly enhance nuclide identification and minimize false alarms. Over the past 10 years, ORTEC has participated in various testing events sponsored by DNDO, DoD/DTRA, IAEA, and the U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories to continue to improve algorithms and upgrade radionuclide libraries. Detective X uses algorithms and a large 65 mm x 50 mm crystal, making it the most sensitive and accurate RIID on the market. The probability of false positives and false negatives is further reduced. If decisions need to be made about potential threat sources, backup experts also need HPGe spectrum. It is widely considered the "gold standard".
Detective X Hardware Overview
ORTEC has over 12 years of experience in HPGe RIID. Input from users around the world has been incorporated into Detective X. Detective X is compact, lightweight and has rugged hardware. The 40% high-efficiency (65 mm x 50 mm) HPGe crystal in the "Ultra High Vacuum" cryostat is cooled by an integrated low-power Stirling refrigerator. The new refrigerator equipped with Detective X can provide greater cooling capacity. The ultra-high vacuum cryostat contains no conventional molecular sieves, allowing the instrument to be turned on or off at any time during the detector cooling or rewarming cycle without any risk. ORTEC is the only manufacturer to offer this feature in a handheld HPGe RIID.
Built-in numbersThe MCA system and a dedicated data processor will be delivered with the product. Detective X features a bright VGA resolution display and touch-sensitive operation screen that is readable under direct sunlight. The operation of Detective X is very intuitive. Radionuclide gamma-ray spectra can be displayed and manipulated (e.g., vertical scale, zoom) similar to traditional multichannel analyzers. Gamma count rate, neutron flux and gamma dose rate are displayed continuously.
UseDetective X: Overview
· The high-resolution, sunlight-readable color touch screen is designed for operating the system and entering data such as passwords and alarm limits.
· The three physical buttons on the device (Power, Navigate (N) and Select (S)) can also be used for inspection and spectrum collection operations.
Audiovisual feedback:
· Bluetooth headsets can be used for audio alarms. The handle provides a vibration alarm.
· The top of the screen starts withmrem/hr (or μSv or μGy) displays the current dose rate. The corresponding icon shows whether the instrument has GPS activated (green) or inactive (red). The icons also show the status of MFK, Bluetooth, LCX mode stabilizer (when disabled) and WiFi (connected or not connected).
· When radiation is detected and recognized, the recognition results will be displayed in the real-time recognition area of the screen. This area lists the names of any radioactive isotopes currently detected.
operating mode
Detection mode operation
Detection mode is used to locate and identify sources. In this mode, the instrument continuously"Search" but no data is stored. The "Detection Mode" screen will display the detector count rate and dose rate. It is also in search mode and monitoring mode.
The "Detection Mode" screen displays a strip chart of "Signal Index" and "SNM Index" in the middle of the screen. The strip chart updates every half second. They are real-time indicators of the presence of radioactive material. The strip chart sometimes shows an increasing trend before the recognition results are displayed on the screen.
Inspection always starts with a measurement in inspection mode.Detective X is set to start automatically in detection mode.
Identify mode operations
This mode identifies radionuclides by counting a target object or area from a fixed location over an extended period of time. Collect data for a preset time period or before collection is stopped.
The recognition pattern can be found inOperate in "Single" spectrum mode or "Multi-spectrum analysis" mode. The mode is selected by the administrator. Single spectrum mode will initiate spectrum collection and perform radionuclide identification as the spectrum is collected. In multispectral mode, background, known and unknown spectra are collected, automatically packaged and sent to the control center.
The default time is real time. During this period, radionuclidesThe ID is displayed on the screen as the nuclide name. The operator can view the spectrum in real time or have the screen display the ten strongest gamma ray energies in the spectrum during identification.
Detective X and background radiation - no more NORM alerts
Unless the standard material is significantly higher than the stored background, otherwiseDetective X can identify and suppress NORM identification results from background measurements saved on the instrument.
Detective X and Digital Stabilization - Best Performance
Although the digital germanium spectrometer is a highly stable instrument under changing temperatures,Detective X can even be used in extreme conditions. The automatic gain stabilizer system will "lock on" the natural background K-40 peaks (if present) to ensure "perfect" calibration even under harsh processing conditions. The stabilizer is very "smart". If the K-40 is not found in the spectrum, the gain stabilizer will be turned off. Additionally, users can choose to disable the spectrum stabilizer and proceed directly to ID measurements to minimize setup time in mission-critical scenarios.
Detective X has a very comprehensive list of nuclides. A subset of the entire nuclide library is the default "threat isotopes"; they are marked red. Advanced users are able to add any nuclide marked green to the list of red threat isotopes. The color coding in the table shows the default background screen colors and visual alerts that will be displayed when the instrument encounters these nuclides.

The detection mode user interface isA simple and easy to use mode for Detective X. It is specially designed for customers who may not use the instrument frequently, need to perform nuclide screening measurements quickly, and need to report data to foreign countries.
The detection mode in Detective X software integrates the following functions:
· An extremely simple and easy-to-use user interface, even if you are not an expert in energy spectroscopy, you can easily get started.
· You can start, pause, and restart a measurement at any time. This function can save accumulated data, and users can perform other operations.
· Help users target their main concerns (Item of Primary Concern) determines the optimal measurement distance.
· A warning interface will remind the user to shut down the Stirling refrigerator before shipment.
· More simplified touch screen buttons for ease of use.
Detection mode is an extremely easy-to-use and simple-to-operate mode. It is especially suitable for law enforcement officers in some government law enforcement departments who may not use such instruments every day like professional laboratory analysts..
Detection mode minimizes the chance of errors. Especially when operators are performing multiple tasks simultaneously, primary concerns can be quickly and accurately assessed (Item of Primary Concern).
Due to the extremely simplified user interface, detection mode can greatly simplify the training of relevant operators.
