Identify the task before comparing ranges and construction. This guide links the retained IBA model documentation and explicitly flags differing Type81 entries.
Identify the task
Line pair patterns and high-resolution test cards are common search terms. The existing IBA Type 38 entry uses both terms for X-ray imaging resolution testing and quality control. Similar names do not establish identical ranges, thicknesses or construction.
Start with the equipment, required resolution range and test object specified by the applicable test documentation. Low contrast, uniformity and other imaging checks require their corresponding test objects or modules; a line pair card does not replace every test.
Compare four specification fields
Check the resolution range, group count, lead foil thickness and dimensions. The values below refer only to the linked entries on this site, rather than every current manufacturer version.
| Documented model | Range (lp/mm) | Groups | Foil thickness / dimensions |
|---|---|---|---|
| IBA Type 38 | 0.6–5.0 | 20 | 0.1 mm / 50 × 50 mm |
| IBA TYPE39 | 1.5–20 | 14 | 0.06 mm / 30 × 60 mm |
| IBA Type81 | 0.6–10.0 | 26 | 0.1 mmPb or 0.05 mmPb / 65 × 55 mm |
Check the Type81 version separately. Another TYPE81 entry on this site lists 20 groups and 0.1 mm foil. Both original entries remain available. Include the entry or existing card documentation in your enquiry and confirm the specific version against formal documentation.
Prepare the enquiry
- Equipment: name, model and the test item in the applicable quality control documentation.
- Range and groups: the required range and details of any existing card.
- Construction: requested foil thickness, dimensions and placement conditions.
- Delivery scope: the card itself and any requested holders or accessories.
Photos and parameter sheets from an existing card help identify the configuration. A general product name alone is insufficient for comparing quotations.
Common questions
Is a higher upper range always better?
Compare the required test range and conditions first. An upper limit alone cannot establish suitability.
Can lp/mm and lp/cm be compared directly?
Convert the length unit first: 1 cm equals 10 mm, so 1 lp/mm equals 10 lp/cm. Also check that both specifications describe the same test item.
Where is the original documentation?
Browse the Conventional X-ray photography inspection phantom and the individual model pages for the retained descriptions, images and parameters.
Discuss a configuration
Provide the equipment model, measurement task and required accessories so the corresponding documentation can be checked.
